Top 3 Antioxidant Rich Foods

For quite some time now, antioxidants have been a popular subject. There are a lot of great foods that provide antioxidants for you such as vegetables, fruits, most nuts, fish, shellfish, red meat, grains, eggs, chicken and garlic. We will discuss them later but first let’s learn more about antioxidants.

Many people do not understand what antioxidants are or why they are good for you. Antioxidants can prevent or slow the oxidative damage to our body. When our body cells use Oxygen, they naturally produce bi-products which can hurt us.  Many health problems and diseases are helped along by oxidative damage such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer and macular degeneration. Antioxidants act as scavengers and help prevent and repair damage done.

As stated above there are a lot of foods that have antioxidants in them. That is great news but there are some foods that are very rich in antioxidants and can give you a good extra dose.

Here are the top 3 choices:

The Pomegranate

The Pomegranate is a shrub that produces an exotic fruit that originated out of Asia and the Middle East. This fruit can be prepared in many different ways to eat and drink. Pomegranates are also known to help blood pressure levels and low cholesterol. They are proving to be especially helpful for men as studies have showed them to help prevent prostate cancer and growth.

The Acai Berry

Acai is a fruit that grows on the Acai Palm Trees in the Amazon Rainforest of Brazil. This fruit is claimed by many to be a miracle fruit that can fix all that ales you. Acai berries are very small but they are full of antioxidants and amino acids. Acai berries hava 10 Times the antioxidant power of red grapes.

Green Tea, Black Tea and more

The Camellia Tea Plant produces green tea, black tea, oolong tea, and white tea. All of these types of teas from the Camellia are also very rich in polyphenols which is a type of antioxidant. These teas will provide you with 8 to 10 times the amount of antioxidants fruits will.

So, as you can see it is very important to make sure that we get antioxidants into our body on a daily basis.  Drinking a cup of tea a day can make a difference.
